Heritage Mall Fights Childhood Obesity with Cool Kids Move Event
HERITAGE MALL FIGHTS CHILDHOOD OBESITY WITH COOL KIDS MOVE EVENT
July 14, 2016 – Albany, OR. Heritage Mall hosts its first annual Cool Kids Move event Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 11am to 12:30pm in partnership with the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA and Samaritan Health Services.
Cool Kids Move is centered around fighting childhood obesity and promoting healthy and active lifestyles for kids. According to a report from the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, one in three children and teens ages 2 to 19 in Oregon are overweight or obese and more than one in ten children become obese between the ages of 2 to 5.
Inspired in part by Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign, Heritage Mall has developed an event to show kids how fun and rewarding an active lifestyle can be. Joined by the Linn-Benton Young Marines, kids will rotate through “stations” where they will perform a different physical activity at each. These activities include jumping jacks, push-ups and relay races led by the Young Marines, an agility course led by SafeHaven Humane Society, jump rope, hula hoops, and skip ball with Heritage Mall tenant Go! Games & Toys, a POUND Fit class, and a kickboxing class. Children will receive a Cool Kids Move Passport when they check-in for the event, and receive a stamp from each station after completion of the activity.
Completed passports can be redeemed for a complimentary day pass to the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA ($25 value) and a free color-changing water bottle from Heritage Mall.
Kids’ Club is a free event for children under 12 the third Saturday of every month sponsored by Samaritan Health Services.
